The Playstation 4 may be taking a back step to its successor, but it’s still got plenty of life left in it. Its legacy is anchored by some of the finest games of this generation, thanks to irresistible exclusive titles and a massive library that covers every genre.
The best PS4 games are typically action-adventure, and skew toward open worlds with first-person or third-person gameplay. This includes classic franchises like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Ratchet & Clank. Other genres also have their share of great offerings, with the indie scene producing some truly spectacular experiences that make the system a joy to own.
Uncharted 4 is a showpiece for the console. Naughty Dog has never made a more expansive or emotionally rich game, with a story that focuses on the lives of its cast of characters and makes their decisions feel all the more significant for it. It’s a masterwork of storytelling that has raked in awards across the board and is a definitive must-play.
It’s rare for a console to be this good at this late stage in its lifespan, and that’s due to the sheer number of incredible games it has spawned. Sony’s wedge-shaped machine is a powerhouse that can do it all, whether it’s a big blockbuster or a smaller, more personal experience.
There’s a lot of excellent exclusive titles that have hit the platform, with some of the year’s biggest releases arriving on the PlayStation 4. From 2018’s God of War Ragnarok to From Software’s drool-worthy gothic masterpiece Bloodborne, there’s something for everyone here.
Hideo Kojima is still pulling out the stops with Death Stranding, and while it may be positioned as a PS5 game, it’s one of the best examples of the last-gen console pushing boundaries and making the most of its hardware. It’s a weird, beautiful game that will go down as an important landmark in the last phase of this generation. It’s a must-play for any fan of the series or anyone that can appreciate its unique style. Playstation 4 games
